Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1)Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What?!?! Some people don’t like this book?!?! WHAT’S WRONG WITH THEM?

Clockwork Angel was the first book I really picked up and read. I’d read other books before but this was my first long, fictional book. It’s the book that got me hooked on reading! I’m a total book addict now. Can’t go more than a month without reading one!

In Clockwork Angel, Tessa Gray has just made a trip from America to England back in the late 1800s. She expects to see her older brother there at docks for her. Imagine her surprise when two warlocks are standing there, ready to whisk her away to their creepy old house!

Tessa has a gift, an ability. And it’s changing everything. She never realized she had this ability but the Dark Sisters brought it out of her. For months she is locked in one room, going through the same routine each and every day. Until she finds out that she’s going to be married off! Who does that to somebody? But it’s probably a good thing because who knows? Maybe if she wasn’t supposed to marry this illusive “Magister” we never would have met William Herondale!

For those of you who have seen Will’s name on a forum or in some fan fiction or on a blog or some twitter post, I would like to introduce you to the man himself! Will has been and always will be my favorite character in all of history. Yeah, I know he didn’t exist but hey, a girl can pretend, right?

Let me give you a piece of advice. The handsome young fellow who’s trying to rescue you from a hideous fate is never wrong. Not even if he says the sky is purple and made of hedgehogs.

― William Herondale

Will made me laugh out loud, he made me furious, he made me cry (okay not really but he made me sad) and he made me, the READER, fall in love with him!

Will enters the picture and rescues Tessa, throwing her headfirst into this world of magic, runes, and … wait for it …

Tessa goes on a mission to find her brother, who was supposedly taken from her, kidnapped just like she was. But the Shadowhunters need Tessa’s help as well … to find the man she was unknowingly betrothed to. And she is happy to help, just as long as they will find her brother!

Enter Jem Carstairs somewhere in the beginning. There’s some big Will/Jem controversy but I’ll try not to get into it. Here’s what I think: Will’s awesome, fiery, arrogant, hilarious, gentle, and misunderstood (yeah, I hate that adjective as much as you do, I promise, but trust me … Will is. Jem, on the other hand, is calm and steady, he would never hurt Tessa. But there’s no excitement to him, no life. I personally adore Will and Jem is a favorite, too, but no where compared to Will.

Cassandra Clare did an amazing job with this book from start to finish! She didn’t drop the ball in any area. Each character was masterfully designed and expertly placed. I have read, re-read, and re-re-read every book in this series so I urge you … READ THE BOOK.

In Summary:

Read the book.
