THE SHATTERED CROWN REVIEW

Wow, long time no talk, right? Sorry, this one is going to be a sadly short review due to some family drama but I think it’s going to get the point across.

PS., friends, I’m typing this in a party van on my way home from Atlanta, Georgia, where I went to the Alabama/Washington game (Roll tide!!) so please, PLEASE, forgive typos and my stunning lack of gifs and amusing pictures that normally accompany my reviews.

So I think it’s no secret to my readers what my favorite genre of books are—ANYTHING YA WITH ACTION! I love paranormal, dystopia, romance (as long as there is plenty of action), and fantasy. I’ve never been a huge fan of what’s considered “normal” or “adult” fantasy but man, did THE SHATTERED CROWN blow my expectations to bits!

Despite being the second book in a series, I had no trouble figuring out what was going on. The lore was creative and the writer really did a wonderful job world-building. It was definitely a breath of fresh air. And the action scenes were seamless and entertaining!

The one thing I have to complain about is the lack of a likable hero. Corin was a strong lead and a totally incredible fighter so I’m surprised I didn’t like him but I guess he and I just didn’t…click. Character wise, when you actually analyze him, he’s a great character, but I guess we just didn’t get along.

The story was complicated and definitely kept my attention for about three quarters of the way through. I have to admit that though the book didn’t slow down, I started to lose interest. It was a LONG book. But I’ve seen a couple reviews from my friends that have read it and they loved it (several even mentioned that they didn’t get bored or lose interest) but then again, I have so many books waiting for me on my shelves that it was hard not to let my mind stray.

My favorite character was probably Queen Ariane. She was everything I wanted her to be and more! Did she get on my nerves? Yes. I thought she was tough enough as it was without swearing all the time and to me, it even made light of her intelligence and other abilities.

Sorry guys but that’s all the time I have for this review! BUT I do have another review being posted in like, an hour tops.

Later, babes!
